Wallstrip - short
I like that.

Long Toni Schneider for giving buzzword-free answers in a Web 2.0 interview. I was also pleased that he speaks as though Web 2.0 is still in an early phase because so many tech interviewees seem to be ready to jump to some concept of “Web 3.0″ when 2.0 still has a long way to go.

Sixth. Great job Toni.

seventh. Can’t believe it took this long to get a short Wallstrip and as smart as Toni is, not a more creative one at that.

1st:
Dont quit yer day job L.
2nd:
What is Wallstrip … is it Web 2.0? or alpha 0.2 ?
What’s the future of Wallstrip in terms of Web 2.0?
why ask this question > -> to Howard I guess,
all due respect L … since you are going to now be a “movie” star … I mean really - What is Your vision Mr Howard?
3rd:
Blogging is like a bunch of cliquey HS students … but you get to see the conversation with no face - a shielded personality … is it flash in the Pan … certainly not - but it needs to evolve … where do you think it is going ?
4th:
Seems like you found quality in Toni … no-nonsense … not looking for a pump me up pat on the back - honest retort … but yet getnly humorous … I guess that is why he is good … I would work for him if I had the chance.
micro_idot // Aug 3, 2007 at 9:45 am
oh - yes - sorry …
GET RID OF THE CAMEO’s of the UGLY guy from OPTIONS EXPRESS … my god - he is like a friggin troll.

Those of us who have watched Wallstrip since the early days, know that Lindsay is going places.
But, nobody is irreplaceable. May cost CBS more.
As long as they keep good writers, gotta be long wallstrip.
Richard // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:05 am
David Kalt the troll, funny. Good point though, you have to cross the bridge if you’re going to do options. How about a makeover Howard? David the troll guarding the bridge to Option Land, butterflies, condors, unicorns, and the “Dragon”.
David and his Dragon? Hmmmm
Andy Swan // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:15 am
Ooooh ya real funny to make fun of David Kalt…a guy who is SUPPORTING the show you like and has a very good, very successful product and company that he wants to spread the word about.
Meanwhile, the two of you micro-idiots lob your 3rd-grade insults as you shield yourself with the very anonymity of the web that you decry.
For you to call Kalt ugly is beyond irony.
Richard // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:22 am
Andy, are you aware, “The Dragon” is an Option Xpress tool?
Howard Lindzon // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:35 am
Let’s play nice, while we argue, options express just executed 600 butterflies and made money
.
Richard // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:46 am
Who’s playing?
Did The Dragon identify these butterflies?
BigDog // Aug 3, 2007 at 12:23 pm
One of the best interviews yet.
Good job.
No B.S., from Toni.
He tells it like it is.
Wallstrip Short!?
I heard on Variety that Lyndsey was up for the lead of in the re-make of Sly’s Rambo #12!
micro_idot // Aug 3, 2007 at 12:34 pm
micro_idiots … nice one - you 3rd grade moron.
lets see here - everyone loves L … because:
1) she is hot - quite cute
2) she is witty
3) she is charismatic
ahhhh - yes
4) she is growing out of the “position”
but yet on the other hand - knocking the options express troll is not being honest. well aint that just peachy. Look - you see lovely L on the Strip … and it is followed up with the Troll … lacks that certain “je ne se qua” ? no ?
i really have a burning question about the vision of Wallstrip - it is a serious question - perhaps Howwie does not want to show his hand - that is cool and respectable … but it is in the blog vain - of asking WHAT NEXT ? … for wallstrip - since WALLSTRIP asks it constantly of all those they interview ? … so - I ask again “WALLSTIP 2.0″ what is it ?
As far as David Kalt is concerned - great that he is successful - good for him, great that he is supporting the show … good for Wallstrip …
my POINT … and it is my serious point … is that his marketing sucks - he must be a narcissistic moron to think that looking at his mug is a helpful thing. Ok - Ok - it is rude - but it is honest … and is honest with respect to why we all like L … she is a charismatic hottie.
Ok - there it is … if you want to know me face to face that is fine - but I dont push my mug to sell my goods.
now that is ENUF said. sorry mr andy.
Richard // Aug 3, 2007 at 12:50 pm
… lacks that certain “je ne se qua” ?
Ok, we won’t have the lovely L followed by a Troll. How about a hunchback?

@micro_idot: The guy is a troll.
And Toni is right. Lindsay is going places, but that’s CBS’s problem now. The next thing they need to do is hire full-time hip financial guru or they will keep losing eye balls.
As to the guy asking Howard for his vision…his vision was to sell it and he did quite well I might add.
Just got back from Europe…boy that continent is dying a slow death.
Howard Lindzon // Aug 3, 2007 at 6:26 pm
hey maximo man. we missed you.
People don’t get web 2.0. the dufus’s like dvorak are calling it a bubble. What it is is a D Bomb on old ways of doing business and old business models - thats deflation.
Look What photo sharing has done to getty images. It’s a phenomenon, not a bubble. Bankers create bubbles - like the credit markets that are imploding before our eyes.
Web 2.0 is so amazingly disruptive and for so little money, so much has changed.
Thats why we talk to smart people in the middle of it on fridays. Thats outside the box thinking Microyutz, just like the show.
We ask - what IF?
Go read somewhere else. You dont get it.

maximo zeledon // Aug 3, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Hey, Thanks Howard! I missed you guys as well. And I can see that serious talk is developing here.
You are hip Howard! I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. As for John Dvorak, he is a moron and a bad futurist. We’re not even near a bubble. Companies are making money…it’s not like the late 1990s where people were chasing a sock Muppet that made no money. Sure, you see “social networking” startups emerging all over the place (just read techcrunch every morning), but venture capital is being smart about it. If you don’t have the traffic and the ad revenue coming you ain’t getting shit.

Lindsay Campbell - famous Hollywood actress - RAWR!
When I saw Toni Schneider, I expected him to be a girl. Didn’t anyone ever tell him that guys spell it Tony and girls spell it Toni? Whatever.
He needs to speak more clearly. I think it’s a confidence thing. Perhaps he needs to go on an executive voice training course?
Graham Armstrong - customerstreet.com // Aug 6, 2007 at 9:25 am
I have just watched the interview with Toni Schneider and it made me realise that this guy is very similar to my own boss. Stuart Forrest is the technical director at customerstreet.com, part of the iomart group.
Stuart seems very much like Toni, sharp, unassuming, talented and a generally a great guy to work with and a great boss.
In order to be successfull you dont need to be ruthless or unaproachable in a rapidly changing business. It also shows that money isnt the be all and end all, its about providing customers with a service and developing ideas for the future.
Toni Schneider – wordpress is making the world a smaller place « Ufindus // Aug 6, 2007 at 10:12 am
[…] Toni Schneider – wordpress is making the world a smaller place Filed under: http://www.ufindus.com, UFindUs, Customer Street, Smile Local, Customerstreet, More UK, staff profiles, Toni Schneider, cool stuff, innovation, communication, customer service, Customer Support, Automattic, business — Graham Armstrong @ 2:12 pm I have just seen an interview with Toni Schneider on WallStrip. He is the CEO of Automattic. He doesn’t really do labels so his colleagues affectionately call him the “band leader”. If you get time then check out the interview, you may need to bear with it whilst it buffers. Listening to him put me very much in mind of our own Customer Street Technical Director, Stuart Forrest. The longer I work within this industry the more people I am coming across like both Toni and Stuart. These guys, and many more besides, never seem phased by anything, they are approachable, passionate about what they do and most of all are natural. Nothing is for show, they are who they are and a big part of why they do what they do is because they feel they can make a difference that will shape peoples lives for the better. When you listen to Toni he is very frank and open about the things he’s asked in the interview and not full of his own self importance like many CEOs in other industries. At the end of the day the public are the ones who ultimately decide how good they are and they know that the public can on occasions be very fickle so they take nothing for granted. I would like to think that if you read Stuarts own blog you can get an insight into the man and the passion behind Customer Street. […]

Toni is right about shorting the itunes model. I just thought about what Prince is doing. He just gave away 3 million free copies of his new CD. It’s direct marketing at its best. And if you pay to go to his concert you get a free CD also. And if you go to his web site http://www.npgmusicclub.com and buy his fragrance or jooin the club, you get a free CD as well. Hmmm. That’s innovative. I feel sorry for the whoring record business.
