Charming interview, although I’m not really sure I understand what his trading philosophy is all about - he didn’t really elaborate on anything beyond that it’s “trend following.”
Either way, cheers to the Wallstrip 100-ep party! Would love to attend but am stuck out of town, maybe next time.

Whe did Will Ferrell get into trading
Tom - He wants yo to buy the book. He talks very well abut how other people trade well. Good book by the way.

Lindsay: “Long/short…Dylan Ratigan”
Michael: “Is he your boyfriend?”
…amused
p.s., when are you going to feature ticker symbol “LNN”?

‘not a turtle & not a trader’ — classic!
If, as Covel says, you can’t identify trends until they’re over how are you supposed to follow trends and make money from them? According to what he says you’d always miss the trends.

Perma-turtle?

Yes! Thanks for the great interview.
Without Covel’s book I’d still be a bottom feeding value investor trying to divine a company’s true market value while fretting about cash flows, book values, EPS, blah, blah, blah.
I used to read every book I could find on investing, but during a visit to Barnes & Noble this week I just stared at the books in the investing section and thought, none of that stuff is relevant, important or worth knowing.
In fact, I laughed the other day when I read someone’s comment that Yahoo wasn’t worth $31. My first response was, so what, the stock is going up, who cares what its really worth.
Yep, drinking the trend following kool aid and its mighty tasty!

Perma-Kool aid?
Dogwood // Mar 30, 2007 at 10:45 am
Mark,
Since no one can predict the future, its about identifying and acting upon high probability setups and then waiting to see if the stock trends or doesn’t, and you won’t know if it did until its over.
I highly recommend his book Trend Following, which provides many examples of traders using trend following techniques.
The book won’t give you a trading system to use, but it will provide you with the philosophical understanding necessary to create your own system-based trend following system.

“Perma-Kool aid?”
Yes. My favorite is the grape, it tastes a lot like grape Nehi!

Perma-Beer

I never got Covel, he is neither trader nor turtle, yet he makes his living off of talking about them? I guess its no different than Larry Kudlow, never made his money trading just bsing.
America sure is great. Ringling Bros had it all right!!
Its all about the show!! Beautiful really. Something the current administration gets and future wannabes should follow. People care more about Anna Nicole than Iraq, why is that? It’s all in the performance!!

I could post countless of my Tickle Tape cartoons that have to do with trending, but this one is probably most appropriate in light of topics discussed in today’s interview:

Michael Covel // Mar 30, 2007 at 6:24 pm
Most fun I have had on an interview. Thanks for the invite Howard.
