No way,
i tried. i guess I am falling for you Lindsay. I like the way that you don’t circumvent.
Few things I like about WS
1) Short and precise
2) No ads upfront
3) Cool Lindsay
$) Very cool companies and drill in to details real quick
I am long on wall strip like Fred probably way long

Very interesting facts about Scion, especially the part about them cutting production. Who knew? They also do a series of very cool events across the country. In fact, I’m going to one tonight.
On another note, I noticed that Scion was a ZipCar. (Was that paid placement? very shrewd…and Vijay thinks there’s no advertising! ;-) ) I’d never heard of that until I was in NYC in September and Adam mentioned it to me. What a great concept.
BTW, here’s the link to Bob Lefsetz’s article about Toyota & Scion

Matthew May/The Elegant Solution Interview
“Toyota’s growing dominance in the automotive sector is not by luck or chance. Much has been written about the company’s operations and the Toyota Production System. What has been missing is a book that describes what Toyota’s management philosophy and innovation is at the heart of that.”

It’s not a legal thing… it’s more “what the hell are you talking about” I thought he did the music until I saw on your blog that he actually wrote about Scion. That’s why permalinks were invented

No - thats why you are our partner :)

My Wife and I always get a good laugh discussing how much those idiots pay to put loud mufflers and purple lights under their boxes on wheels.
I thought the ones that weren’t boxy were the popular ones?
Trader Mike One year ago
Andy, you’re a party pooper… yesterday you were hating on $80 jeans, today it’s loud pipes & neon. Is there no joy in Kentucky? ;-)

If the car sold YUM brands out of the back, Andy would finally smile.
Can someone pls push YUM to the top of the Wallstrip pile :)

Hey…why didn’t you get Lindsay to do a guest spot on the “Naked News”, when they did their show on the streets of NY? I would have paid to see that! LOL

That was terrific….are you guys trying a different format….I really like the way the last few have been done.

Great show! Have you seen the 24/7 Wall St. blog? Interesting article there about how Toyota is gunning for 20% share in the U.S. market. I’ll quote them below:
“Leaving aside the fact that at $215 billion, Toyota’s market cap is as large as the next four most valuable car companies combined and that the company is upping its sales forecasts for the year. The most frightening announcements for the Big Three is that Toyota will start producing and pushing it Tundra pick-up, a move directed at the heart of Detroit’s most lucrative model lines and that it will begin to market additional fuel-efficient cars like its Scion.”

Love the jazz bed. UBER-hip man. Very cool. Hello 2nd life….good-bye myspace. Best news I’ve heard all day. :)

I really like the Scion. I’ve driven a few via ZipCar and I’ve enjoyed them.
Kudos on the show too! I really enjoy it.

Excellent delivery Lindsay…quick and informative, that’s what vlogs are all about ;)

Mike, $88 for jeans on-sale is a wow. My wife pays more than that. I try to tell her it’s the ass that makes the jeans look good, not the other way around…
Howard–I loved today’s show. I finally learned what company is smart enough to make money of the people that put purple lights under their car and hubcaps that spin when the car is stopped.
I hope tomorrow we learn what company is getting rich by making the WallStrip video such high quality.
Beats good fried chicken and bad tacos any day.

Nice commercial. How much did Toyota pay you? Wallstrip whores itself out.
mike One year ago
I have just been turned onto the show by a friend of mine. What a great concept you guys have Howard and where did you find such a talent (Lindsay Campbell). My only wish is to be watching Lindsay doing this show on CNBC or something like that. Keep up the good work guys
Andy One year ago
Allen,
It’s gonna be pretty tough to do a show ABOUT companies that are hot without talking about 1) the company that is hot and 2) the product that is making the company hot.
Howard, please issue Allen a full refund so that he goes away.
howard lindzon One year ago
Allen,
A useless and inflammatory comment. As usual, no link back.
For our readers - Wallstrip is not being paid for talking about great products and Toyota we are looking at why it acts like a growth stock and not like GM or Ford
The show is about trends.
Our readers will know when we are getting paid.

Mike -
If she ends up on CNBC it will be because we failed as did she :)
It’s comedy central or nothing. We are taking the high road here :)
Wow - easy setup Mike

I just discovered Wallstrip. It’s interesting but playback is stop-and-start due to Revver.

The Scion isn’t really affordable.
It’s for rich and upper middle class kids
who aren’t paying for their car,
mommy and daddy are.
Jazzybc One year ago
I’m curious, was that an editorial, a commercial or a marketing lesson.Honestly I couldn’t tell
Dom One year ago
Cool…I did not know that about Toyota, but now I know why I don’t own one!
howard lindzon One year ago
I agree with Zacharalli - but that works in reality. Shrewd

I would say non of the above. We are looking for the smartest, fastest way to delve into the phenomenon on a trending stock and can it continue. Catalysts. Toyota is the product and the sense of scarcity they create. Bob’s post said it all and we tried to put it to video

the marketing kids at Tepper loved this episode.
wallstrip has a future in effectively summarizing
firms’ marketing efforts.
candice One year ago
If you define kids as twenty-somethings, yes, it’s affordable. I very nearly bought the coupe two months ago. Had I wanted to finance a car I’d be driving it now.
Much more affordable than any other cool-looking thing on the road at the moment.

Followed the links here via Lefsetz. You’re right to give him a soapbox to stand on as he’s one of the smarter commentators out there.
It was funny to hear his words spoken through the mouth of someone else. I think if Lindsay had been 50% more Christopher Walken in her delivery, it would have perfectly matched my mental image of how this text should have been read. She’s already mostly there!
(RATHER… than trying to squeeze BLOOD… from a STONE… they STARTED… with a BLANK… piece of PAPER)
I mean, can’t you just hear Walken delivering these lines? Priceless, I tell you.

The dead zone - my favorite walken movie :)

That woman(Bob?) is extremely annoying.
But the concept of creating a new
brand and focusing on innovative,
non-mainstream, advertising is a good one
for some applications.
I can’t believe that that most people who buy Scion don’t know it’s just a
Toyota with marketing spin.
And having a bunch of old people driving around
in xB’s probably doesn’t help portray the
desired image. But maybe I’m just
biased, kind of like the video clip.
Good ideas regardless.
Michael Chui One year ago
Second Life isn’t the cutting edge; it’s just the best marketed edge. Which is good enough for me.
roz One year ago
This is a Toyota commercial.
Of course, they’re cutting production–sales are undercutting higher priced models (check out Toyota’s financials). Although targeted for Gen Y, most buyer are over 50. My Dad bought one–he likes the head room.
For Scion, it’s not hip to be square.
Roz.

I want a car that slips thru the air…..not a square
car that slams into it. They’re awful.

this episode eerily reminded me of those ibm business solutions commercials. good though, and i suppose thats why toyota is poised to overtake gm this year as the premiere car manufacturer.
that and gm cant make a decent car at all.
