Labor Day isn’t going to be very relaxing for over 140 Continental pilots.
Due to the slow economy, blah blah blah, Continental is cutting back on bout 3,000 positions system-wide. Only the pilots are getting the axe, though.
Here’s more, from Chron.com:
- More than 140 pilots at Continental Airlines could be laid off after Labor Day as the company begins to cut operations.
- Those furloughs will begin Sept. 9, according to Houston-based Continental, which cited high fuel costs and weak economic conditions as the reasons for the cutbacks.[...]
- Continental announced in June that it would reduce domestic capacity by 11 percent starting in September. In an employee bulletin, Continental said more than 90 percent of positions targeted for elimination were cut through voluntary programs or attrition.
