Electric Vehicles of America: convert your car to electric

Since GM pulled its EV1s from the market (and our driveways), people have been looking for an electric option. But until lately, they hadn’t been looking hard enough. But with gas prices soaring, food prices rising, and house values plummeting, people are getting serious about the electric car movement.

GM has a new answer: the Chevy Volt. But that won’t be on the market until 2010. So, until then, people are taking the matter in to their own hands.

  • [An] electric DYI-er in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Bob Batson, has formed a company called Electric Vehicles of America that sells vehicle parts for other anti-gasoline rebels looking to convert.
  • Batson said business has more than tripled in the past year. “Sales trends are definitely up as the price of gasoline goes up,” he said.
