The Dark Knight has shot passed the $400 million dollar mark in ticket sales. Pretty impressive, since the movie has only been open 18 days.
Well, they’re not getting my money. I’m a Netflix person, myself. I guess that hasn’t really hurt them though, has it?
Here’s the story, from Bloomberg.com:
- Time Warner Inc.’s “The Dark Knight” surpassed $400 million in ticket sales in 18 days, cementing the latest Batman movie’s place as Hollywood’s fastest moneymaker.
- “The Dark Knight” had just over $400 million in sales in the U.S. and Canada as of yesterday, Encino, California-based Media By Numbers said today in an e-mailed statement. The film broke the record of 43 days set by “Shrek 2″ in 2004.
- The milestone represents the latest sales record set by “The Dark Knight,” based on domestic sales. It had the biggest opening day, $67.2 million on July 18, and the biggest opening weekend, $158.4 million. The numbers lifted Time Warner to first place in 2008 ticket sales and may boost the movie industry past last year’s record of $9.68 billion.
