Wow! I the first to post and I was late to work. I know, your busy crunching your CROX guess. Today’s the last day to enter. Just 8 new entries from yesterday. Talk about low volume! Come on people Howard needs your support. He has to make an iPhone payment. LOL

Maybe it’s the 4 hours of sleep slowing down otherwise less-skeptical brain function, but would you have covered Joost if you weren’t under the CBS umbrella? I do appreciate the up front disclosure of the CBS backing, but still…
Bush twins, Ann Coulter, surprised stem cell research wasn’t thrown in. :-)

@Abe
Why in the world would Wallstrip (an internet video show about hot trends) NOT cover Joost (the most anticipated internet video player ever)?
I’ll see your point if they start covering Katie Couric as anything other than a total disaster…even considering the Rathar small shoes she had to fill. :)

Joost will fail. Interesting concept, but it won’t work. It’s a closed model and I find it ironic that it comes from Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström…well, I don’t think they are as involved as in previous projects. Kazaa and Skype were disruptive technologies–everything Joost is not and I can smell the flop from here in DC. It won’t matter how many media partners they get. It is so damn contrived–from the fake element of exclusivity, the 1970s porno logo, and even who gets invited to the beta release. Oooh, I’m dying to join…please, please send me an invite.
And now you have Volpi (what a bad poker face) saying peer-to-peer is dead. Now, that is funny as hell, but it’s Friday. So many smart guys involved and we’re still talking about showing ads in the same all boring traditional way. Get creative for a change. Let me tell you a secret: People do not want the traditional ad pitch with their content–that’s why they buy Tivo boxes and stay away from TV. That’s why Lindsay was forced to act in a commercial for Options Xpress.
What happened to these Yedi masters? Big money came calling, that’s what happened. Zennstrom and Friis are now “legit” intent on avoiding legal controversy associated with filing-sharing technology. They don’t want more legal battles with the recording and motion picture industries. But guess what? Young consumers do. They love Bittorrent, so good luck competing. Ah, wait…I’m forgetting fed regulations. In the end that’s the only way media dinassours survive. I leave you with this quote.
“Innovation requires a culture of thinkers who look at each challenge as a new opportunity. In its purest form, innovation applies technology to solve a real problem, and our users are our best resources for defining those problems.”
–Niklas Zennström

Howard - If I were any more relaxed I’d be asleep in my cube, but I hear you. And thanks for the honest answer. :-)
@ Andy - Nice wordplay. I’d never heard of Joost before today but I might keep an eye out for it.

Sounds like Joost is another TV station but on the web. Just what we need another TV chanel, The market must be getting smaller and smaller for every chanel that is on the web , cable or dish. How do any of these make money or did the big three networks just made a killing before all these chanels.
