Coincidentally, I was just reading an article about inflation before coming here, called “Five Stages of Counterfeiting”
Here’s a fun quip;
What I know is that price stability has been the fairy-tale dream of Federal Reserve chairman ever since 1938, which they promise to Congress, four times a year. They have been singing a variant of Snow White’s love song ever since its release in 1937: “Some day, price stability will come.” And Congress, doing its now-legendary imitation of Dopey, smiles contentedly.

Try buying a Porsche in Canada (see above link). Our humility is coming back and biting us in the ass. Hopefully the CANBUCK will start to earn the respect it deserves.

Ah well, the greenback is about to crater big time, the Canbuck will look way better than. Here’s my trend for the last year: Got paid $500US to do some video work in November last year, it translated to about $630 Australian. Then I got $500US in January which translated to about $600AU. Then in April $500US got me about $580AU. And just this week $500US got me about $550AU. That’s a nasty trend.
And the show was good - don’t think I’d have tried the Canbuck on a NY cabbie - they have a reputation.

Fun show … I love the part where you you let out a Freudian slip about the US $ “as if it’s currency”. ;-)

Hi Scott … I’m no expert but if&when they start to get their act together on inching rates higher in japan, panic will set in and the carry trade will unwind. That trade includes some people leveraged at crazy ratios like 100-1 so the move could be pretty quick. I’m biased since I’m almost always a contrarian, such as about this carry trade (shhh … don’t tell Howard I said contrarian!). I guess someone has to take the other side of all these momentum bets so I’m happy to be of service. It worked for the homebuilders but clobbered me on AAPL so what do I know?
Jennson One year ago
funniest episode. can’t believe people won’t take that and go the extra step to exchange it for USD

no reason to be contrarian just to be a contraarian. Homebuilders were a great short when the trend was broken and they were down 35-40 percent already.
apple’s day will come just not until the mood of this market changes.

Paul, thanks for the info!

The other day in a store in Philly I actually had someone look at my US$10 bill and think it was Canadian! She wouldn’t believe me that it was U.S. - “I don’t want ‘funny money,’” she said. Wish I had your video camera for that one!

It’s true!!! It’s true!!!
I live the dream every day. I work in Detroit, Michigan earning USD and live in Windsor, Ontario spending CAD. The current exchange rate selling USD is around USD@CAD1.03 — basically par. At least most Detroiters know what CAD look like, though they insist on a paying something like USD15 for CAD20, if they want to trade it.
