My favorite Israli play is Tower Semiconductor (TSEM). Right now is under $2.00 but there is great growth potential. The company manufactures semiconductor integrated circuits on silicon wafers which are incorporated into a wide range of products in various markets such as consumer electronics, PCs and telecommunications. My second play is OMRIX BIOPHARMACEUTICALS (omri) which is up 200% this year. I bought the company at $10 last May and now it is at $32.88.
Think of Israel as the United States in the post war—a lot of money going into researh and development for military purposes but that in turn estimulated the entire economy which gave us the jet engine, the web and everything in between. A lot of smart people come out of the Israli military and now they are starting companies all over. A hot new start getting a lot of buzz in Israel is http://www.famillion.com watch the IPO on this one!

The level of innovation there astounds me. #1 in world per capital for patents (as you said), amazing.

Just a tip - the Diamond District is not a good place for on-the-street interviews. Unless you’re looking for a lot of rejections and truck sounds!
