                              Black Board has great potential to be a huge hit in the K-12 market. Imagine using the online assessments tools to help students prepare for standardized tests like the AP Exams and pre-SATs. Or as a teacher, think how easy it would be to create new course content in Blackboard. All you need to do is type into a text box, and Black-
                              Board converts the text to HTML automatically! Posting images, sound files, and video clips is like attaching a file to an email message. Teachers would love that.

                              Using Back Board group tools to manage differentiating instruction for gifted kids, special education, and advanced placement. You don’t even have to sell it to teachers. They love it! I know AP teachers who us it and love it. But parent involvement is a must and Black Board has to educate. It should not be hard to do because communicating more easily and effectively with parents is also at the top of the list for teachers and administrators. Virtual classroom and chat tools I don’t think are as easy for obvious reasons, but a lot schools are incorporating them and studies show that this type of learning helps students retain more material.

                              Ironically the single sign-on access to existing administrative systems is a key challenge in the K-12 segment because as you all know not every school district in the country is technologically equipped to handle a transition or switch to Black Board, financially or technically. Even for universities it can be a challenge and that the main barrier really besides privacy issues that parents my have about the system. But I think students, educators, and parents would love it.

                              The K-12 segment is huge because Black Board would offer integration and application services to school districts nation-wide. That’s a lot of dollars once the money is approved because schools would need customization, installation and configuration services not to mention content migration and administrative and faculty training.

                                    Heard lots of complaints about Blackboard, but it is too strong. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear anti-trust murmurs in a couple years.

                                    It won’t help your kids get more better lurnt, but every school will have Blackboard, just like every school has metal detectors.

                                      Gabe - post the WebCT acquisition Blackboard, for all purposes, IS the market. The anti-trust issue hasn’t come up because the market is too niche to regulate.

                                          As a student I absolutely hate blackboard because teachers are lazy, unorganized, and computer illiterate. All of my professors need help putting things up, which takes days before the techies at my college get around to it. When they do get those files up they’re in no order…making my life miserable. Still, every school in America will get on the BBBB train. I think it’s a great investment but boring trade.

                                            Good point Brennan. For the most part my business professors are very good and organized, but I did have some professors in the past who were technology morons. But that’s a human element. Black Board is not perfect but show me a better alternative.

                                                If you are a purchaser of Blackboard, hold onto your wallets. Oh and btw, the “taking over of WebCT” …just wait until all you current WebCT users get the rug pulled out from under you. Also, great job with that patent, nice way to alienate just about your whole customer base. Yup, with all the fuzzy marketing Blackboard does I bet their stock is doing well.

Их строительство не замирает даже зимой. Хозяева строителей понукают: “Быстрее, быстрее, а то стройматериалы растащат!” На самый крайний случай, чтобы уберечь добро, достраивается или возводится забор. Вдобавок, чем богаче обладатель, тем прочнее и фундаментальнее выглядит его забор. Чем же огораживают свои ломти земли самые буржуйские “мэны” нашей необъятной родины?

                                                                            Скажу сразу, интересоваться этим делом, значит, подвергать себя определенному риску. Во-первых, этот народец весьма весьма и малоразговорчивый, во-вторых, ненадежный. Строители также неохотно идут на беседу “со шпионами”: “Да, делали такому забор, какой и за сколько, вам знать совершенно необязательно!”

                                                                            Вместе с тем чем страшнее тайна, тем слаще ее открывать. Выяснилось, что “сильные мира сего” строят заборы из бетона, дерева и кирпича. Но в большинстве случаев им нравятся кованые заборы. Почему? Ответ довольно прост. Бетон, как не самый хороший материал для элитарного забора не пойдет. Кирпич имеет правило крошится, и через несколько лет стоического стояния под нашим мокрым небом обретает вид “засиженного мухами”. Дерево, вне всякого сомнения, недолговечно и быстро гниет. Поэтому на первые места сегодня сломя голову выходят кованые заборы.

                                                                            Чаще всего получается так, что основу забора составляет кованая декоративная решетка, а столбы, на которые она ставится, возводятся из бетона. Принцип тут такой: “И обходится такое удовольствие за высокую цену, и смотрится очень красиво”

                                                                            А теперь о деньгах. Один «художественный» столб из бетона, а-ля «древнеримская колонна» встанет вам ориентировочно долларов в 45, а одна секция кованной декоративной тех же размеров от $80 до $150. Таким образом, для огораживания 10 соток понадобится от 7000 до 10000 долларов. Не то, чтобы по дешевке, но оно этого стоит.
                                                                            Сколько потребуется, чтобы поставить всю эту красоту? Две недели терпеливого ожидания - и готово дело, живите и радуйтесь. Но и это еще не все! Если вы выберите «элитный» забор типа «металлоконструкция на кирпичных опорах», то можете надеться на то, что, увидев такой забор, ваши знакомые и друзья навсегда уверуют в то, что вы персона в полном объеме безукоризненного эстетического вкуса и будут спрашивать Ваше представление во всех своих последующих решениях.
