Is old media trademarked content still king or is all the open-sourced timberlake-in a-box crazy stuff and budgetless reality shows going to win the eyeballs?

I think some elements are set for a real good budgetless reality show to hit the internet market. However as long as the distribution technologies are not reaching outside the cyberspace it’ll be difficult to compete against the big trademarked media.
Also, trying to bring any of the big producers (let’s say sony) to sponsor a budgetless figure to the big leagues will be troublesome as long as they are not trademarked (maybe some kind of open source license could be used to protect the investment to certain extend)

Big media’s big disadvantage is the have to have blockbusters to cover all their duds. Small, independent makers have such a low outlay required they can afford to fail 100 times. You can already do better effects at home than Hollywood could 20 years ago with the biggest budget. YouTube etc proved a distribution medium cutting out all the old power players.
The next 5-10 years are going to be very interesting.

The Spiderman on Broadway should add a few hundred million to the bottom line.

The best entry was around $25 a little while back from an all-time high perspective.

I’m pretty sure what we’ll see is a combination of everything you guys are predicting. Nobody can stop movies from getting bigger and capitalizing on existing name brands like Spider-Man. But at the same time the studios can’t deny the low-risk high-reward scenario of producing small-budget films like ‘Sideways’ where you can make 100 as long as one of them is a huge financial success.
Especially as new cinema technology like 3-D, IMAX, and digital projection progresses, we’ll start to separate a theater experience for big CGI action-type films and a home theater DVD or download experience for everything else. But big studios will produce them all, with both a wing for independent films (i.e. Fox Searchlight) and the big-budget shlock we’re used to (i.e. 20th Century Fox).

Spiderman the musical should hit Broadway next summer. Casting is going on as we speak. Sounds like David Maisel knows what he;s doing on this one.
New music and lyrics being supplied by Bono and the Edge. Julie Taymor of Lion King fame to direct. Could this be the Peter Pan (Parker?) for Gen Y, and their parents).

I can’t believe no one said Flash was their favorite. They can all bite me.

The short guy in a blue shirt definitely said the Flash.

Superman is a bloody idiot, the movie was a flop! He doesn’t come close to X-Men or most of MVL’s Line-up.

Lindsay is the web’s Money Honey according to this blog: http://dwdowling.blogspot.com/2007/04/lindsay-campbell-maria-bartiromo-of-web.html
I tend to agree with the author (except for the whole “hideously unattractive financiers” comment, he must be confusing his Solly stockbroker with actual traders).
Anyways, Lindsay if you want to take the $H analogy to the next level you’re welcome aboard my jet (chartered, not owned I’m afraid) anytime.
