Just Say No to stills of the “willpower challenged”
On another note, would it be good to more often include some background on the sectors/competitors? In this case, a brief look at General Mills? Just a thought.

You say the stock price will continue it’s growing trend because of the drop of the corn prices. I just want to know what makes you say that the prices of corn are going to drop, when we see a huge competition for the corn from the biofuel producers.
If you check the latest version of the foreign affairs magazine, you will find an article on biofuels and their impact on corn prices.
Won’t be Kellogs and other corn based products and companies suffer the most with the biofuel expansion?

Juan,
You make a goof point but Companies like Kellogg’s do start to use the futures markets to lock in corn prices at certain points so that they can focus on their main business.
I will check into the policy of kellogg’s

Once again, I just wanted to say thank you. This site is a brilliant idea, that I am really enjoying.
(Are you interested in some stocks to focus on? I don’t want to suggest them here, and be accused of hyping them, but I have a few that you might be able to do some fun stuff with.)
BTW, my prediction is less than 6 months before someone smart makes you an offer you can’t refuse.

My blog post below the fold every day will sometimes look at the competition.
It is smart to look at how Wallstrip’s stock is acting compared to it’s peers and I will try to incpoorporate that more in the blog posts and shows

About corn prices dropping? Huh? Production is going up to meet ethanol demand subsidized by government policy but I doubt it will relieve corn prices any more than temporarily. The low-carb diet craze has had some downward effect on carb foods profit margins - and now the bio-fuel demand is not making it any easier. still - I like pop-tarts when I am allowed to have them.

Our comment in today’s show about the corn prices was based on two things:
1) Corn production is expected to increase by almost 16% this year in anticipation of increased biofuel demand. But in the short term, the Chicago price is likely to continue to drop, some say below $2 a bushel.
2) In their January review of fourth quarter performance, Kellogg management projected continued inflation of corn prices into this year. If, instead, prices continue to drop, chances are Kellogg will outperform expectations, pushing up the price.
That’s not to say that we’re RIGHT… we also aren’t recommending that you buy or sell the stock. Just wanted to give you some background. Great points in the comments, and I hope the discussion continues!

I think you are right on with the corn prices. There is plenty of production to meet the small demand for biofuels. Until I see a huge investment in Ethanol plants, I don’t see the price of corn doing anything but dropping.
Wheat, corn, soybean prices are what they were 30 years ago because corporate farms are so efficient.

Veggie chicken nuggets? Sounds nasty.
Who knows, if they can create a demand for burnt corn, and build a giant company around it, maybe veggie chicken nuggets is a winner.
Nah.

Does anyone know where the extra 15% of planted corn is coming from and what crop will be switched over? 25% of the switched crops are cotton and in the south. Anyone know what the yields on southern corn is? Barely anything. Not saying corn won’t drop and that the 2 day limit down wasn’t due just that most people are just guessing without doing their DD.
