I take you seriously, I really do.
I like it that you are a babe.
But when you put your 2007 glasses on your funbags, I just found it hard to concentrate on your words.

From what I remeber, American Express started out a lot like Federal Express–shipping packages/goods across the country (via rail). They established a reputation as a good way to transport money, and it didn’t take them too long to figure out the benefits of transporting it, most notably the interest that could be earned on “the float” if you took custody of the “package” in New York and delivered the cash in the West 10 days later out of a different stack of bills.

Subsequently they began focusing more and more on “moving money” without the actual cash having to move…and developing products that made that process easier for them and their customers.

It’s an interesting story of a company that was stuggling (as a shipper of goods) who had its eyes open to the wants of its customer….and then developing, dominating and expanding a niche that others missed. A story that is often repeated throughout business success, as demonstrated in “Built to Last”

I’ve been an AMEX customer for a long time and have never had a problem with them. They seem to hire competent employees who speak English, which is downright unfashionable these days.

I only invest in mutual funds because I prefer to let other people lose sleep over stock performance, but from a consumer standpoint it doesn’t get any better than AMEX.

And Duffer… if she starts wearing big wooly sweaters now, we’ll know who to blame.
