This “organic” nonsense can’t end soon enough for me. My wife told me a couple weeks ago that she spends $800/mo on our groceries. There are two of us.

Other signs of inevitable death: National grocery store chains now devote whole aisles to organic foods and worse! Walmart is joining the trend.

Nice trend in financial reporting. Would be interesting to have follow ups and to use the long and short calls made now and follow them up in a few quarters. Also, when is Lindsay going to interview Jimmy Cramer?

WholeFoods was the hottest spot in Austin for a bit last year but it seems to be more ho-hum these days.
Howard sounds like the street has spoken and you might want to up the ante to a couple of raspberries if you want an interviewee.

Kipsteele, to which long/short calls are you referring? I don’t recall seeing/hearing any buy/sell recs on WallStrip

KIP -
I am disclosing if I am long and where I would go long (I rarely will short and would disclose in my blog) but the show is not. The long short calls or for the bloggers.
It is a strategy show not a stock tout show.

Sorry - The long /short calls are FOR the bloggers

Interesting episode. Organic isn’t going away. It’s just getting commodified, thus ruining Whole Foods business model.
Maybe you have have offered the overweight chick 2 raspberries.

Chartreuse, your comment is rude and juvenile. Insight-less.

Whole Foods going down as Yum! Brands hits all time highs. Looks like people are starting to get over the whole “what kind of lifestyle did the animal that doesn’t need a head to run around have before I ate it” concept.
Char–you know better?

If I could afford to shop at Whole Foods all the time, I would. The food is fresh and healthy and the selection terrific. There is no doubt that Whole Foods is a haven for the well-to-do :(

Chars first point is right on and for fear of a Lindsay wuppin wont comment on the raspberry scandal.

Groceries has always been a commodity, no company can sustain itself long term on this. As for the organic ‘trend’ it’s here to stay. Too many backers and mavens who have adopted the cause and lifestyle.

I don’t think of Whole Foods as a grocery store, more of a mega delicatessen. They seem to dedicate a greater percentage of floor space to prepared foods than other chians. Have they found a sweet spot between restaurants and fast food for those outside of urban centers? The ‘organic’ tag helps to justify the higher cost.

Char’s 2nd comment may have been insight-less, but it was funny. And, it probably won’t get deleted here.
